Hilary Baker

Dr. Baker received her Ph.D. in musicology from the University of Pennsylvania in 2010, and from 2011-2014 she worked at Pennsylvania State University Erie, The Behrend College as a full-time lecturer in music. Presently Berlin based, she teaches, conducts research and makes music.

Current scholarly projects include a manuscript entitled “The Coming Out of the American Musical,” a subject largely inspired by her experience in the American theater industry. Past theater production credits include David Henry Hwang’s adaptation of Flower Drum Song and Baz Luhrmann’s version of Puccini’s La Boheme.

She is an active popular music performer and recording musician, primarily on the alto saxophone. In recent years she worked with the Philadelphia-based indie rock band Public Record and released two albums.
